2020 Shoe Drive

When: Starting NOW through February 14th, we will be collecting gently worn, used, or new shoes - any type and any size. (No shoes with holes, soles falling off or completely worn out.)

What: TLCS will earn funds based on the total weight of the pairs of gently worn, used and new shoes collected, as Funds2Orgs will issue a check for the collected shoes. All donated shoes will then be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of micro-enterprise (small business) partners. Funds2Orgs works with micro-entrepreneurs in helping them create, maintain and grow small businesses in developing countries where economic opportunity and jobs are limited. Proceeds from the sales of the shoes collected in shoe drive fundraisers are used to feed, clothe and house their families. One budding entrepreneur in Haiti even earned enough to send to her son to law school. Visit their website to learn more about the work they are doing.

Why: With each fundraiser that we host, in this case the Fun Run, we try to give back in some way. By collecting our old, unwanted shoes, we are keeping them out of landfills and supporting micro-entrepreneurs around the world all while raising more money toward our annual goal. Without you having to spend another dime!

Goal: Please help us reach our goal of 2,500 pairs (approx. 100 bags) of shoes. This sounds like a lot, but on average every American family has 15 pairs of old or unworn shoes. If each of our families donated those 15 pairs (and some will have more) we would exceed this. We will earn approximately $1,000 toward our annual fundraising goal!

How: Drop off your old shoes in the bins outside of the school office. Please make sure to bring them in a bag labeled with your child's name and teacher written clearly on it.

Incentives:

  1. ELEMENTARY: Our Run Club and earning charms is right around the corner. So, what better way to get the kids excited then have them earn charms another way! For every 5 pairs of shoes your child brings in, they will earn a special Shoe Drive shoe charm.

  2. MIDDLE SCHOOL: For every 5 pairs of shoes, your child gets to pick from one of our select items off of our snack cart.

  3. ALL: We will have a class party for the class that brings in the most pairs of shoes.

Other Ideas:

  • Please ask around! Your friends and neighbors will likely have shoes that they plan to donate anyway. Feel free to print out one of the attached flyers. Attach them to a bag and drop them off with friends/neighbors. They can add to or fill a bag before the date that you write down for pick up.
